Every youth deserves an oppurtunity to learn.

We strive to provide equally new opportunities for all Burmese students, regardless of their socio-economic background. The Burman provides educational workshops, school supplies, and scholarships for disadvantaged students. Additionally, our Burman Interscholastic Newspaper facilitates sharing of knowledge and diverse voices among local and international students.

Children in Myanmar can’t afford an education due to

Low-Income Students

One in five children in Myanmar cannot receive an education due to economic hardship. Faced with poverty and political instability, many families are forced to sacrifice their children’s education to reduce living expenses. In fact, school enrollment has dropped by 80% ever since the long 15-month school closure during COVID-19. Ongoing warfare has worsened the situation, as teachers and staff no longer return to villages to teach.
To make education more accessible, The Burman collaborates with educational centers in Myanmar. Our partnering school consists of large low-income student population from Upper Myanmar, such as Chin State. Every weekend, Burman members conduct lessons and workshops, covering topics ranging from core subjects to digital literacy.

Amplifying Voices

Myanmar’s monsoon season with heavy rainfall causes frequent flooding and natural disasters, with 39.9% of the country’s population at risk. Victims of these natural disasters are particularly vulnerable due to the country’s limited infrastructure and facilities for disaster response. Many affected communities — especially in rural areas of upper Myanmar — lack access to essential services such as clean water, sanitation, and shelter for evacuation. To address this issue, The Burman partners with local NGOs, to provide food and clothes for evacuated victims.
